We worked with the fantastic designer Tony Browne from Design-projects to realise this exciting project for the clients.
Originally planned as an extension and renovation project it quickly became apparent that the existing structure wasn't fit for purpose, coupled with the reduction in VAT benefit (20% for an extension/refurb compared to 0% for a new build) meant that a decision to change the planning permission to new build was an easy one.
After considering many build methods we opted to go with a bespoke stick-built timber frame filled with mineral wool insulation coupled with a layer of pir insulation on the inside face. All junctions were considered to reduce heat loss, cold bridging and air leakage.
The home benefits from:
Super low u-values
Air leakage score below 1m3/hm2
Air source heat pump
Mechanical ventilation & heat recovery
Solar PV
Battery storage
Private water supply from a borehole onsite
Sewage treatment plant
High-performance composite doors & windows
Thanks to these features this really is an ‘off-grid’ home with high-quality finishes.
